Suggested STRATEGIES for solving the possible problems that may arise while doing Spoken production activities

  1. On the preparation level
    • Clearly set and suitable tasks
    • Suitable topics that provoke the students’ interest
    • Provide/ learn/ revise key words
    • Provide/ learn/ revise set phrases
    • Provide grammatical structures


A good preparatory phase before the Spoken Production activity is a way to avoid students’ problems with it. A suggestion is the following pre-activity to ‘I can make an announcement on the plane’ Level A2 – giving instructions:


    • Reading similar scripts beforehand
    • Prepare visual materials
    • Memorize prepared structures/texts
    • Rehearse on the student’s own/ in front of a peer or group
    • Acquaint the speaker with the situation/audience/environment
    • Consider the time limit

  1. On the execution level
    • Using visual support
    • Using set phrases
    • Using guiding questions
    • Using tapes that require response
    • Using body language and compensating strategies

  2. On the monitoring/ repairing level
    • Recording for self-monitoring later
    • Taking down notes for giving feedback
    • Using a checklist questionnaire
    • Voting
    • Composing lists of mistakes done and correcting them
    • Discussions
