Suggested STRATEGIES for solving the possible problems that may arise while doing Spoken production activities
On the preparation level
Clearly set and suitable tasks
Suitable topics that provoke the students’ interest
Provide/ learn/ revise key words
Provide/ learn/ revise set phrases
Provide grammatical structures
A good preparatory phase before the Spoken Production activity is a way to avoid students’ problems with it. A suggestion is the following pre-activity to ‘I can make an announcement on the plane’ Level A2 – giving instructions:
Reading similar scripts beforehand
Prepare visual materials
Memorize prepared structures/texts
Rehearse on the student’s own/ in front of a peer or group
Acquaint the speaker with the situation/audience/environment
Consider the time limit
On the execution level
Using visual support
Using set phrases
Using guiding questions
Using tapes that require response
Using body language and compensating strategies
On the monitoring/ repairing level
Recording for self-monitoring later
Taking down notes for giving feedback
Using a checklist questionnaire
