Problem 3 - Discourse Organization
B1-1
Spoken interaction for agreement or disagreement
ON HOLIDAYS
Problem :
Discourse organisation - not able to put sentences into a well-formed discourse.
- Teacher will tell the student to reconsider his/her statement
- Student will write down his statement and make considerations about its status
- Teacher will give the student a feedback and suggest some strategies to deal with the problems encountered.
- E.g.:
- Make short sentences
- Give a reason why you agree or disagree with someone else’s view.
- Provide students with some expressions which refere to agreement/disagreement:
Agreement: | Disagreement: |
- I couldn't agree more!
- That's absolutely true!
- Absolutely!
- I agree with your point.
- I'd go along with you there.
- I'm with you on that.
- That's just what I was thinking.
- That's exactly what I think.
- That's a good point.
- That's just how I see it.
- That's exactly my opinion.
|
- I am not so sure.
- Do you think so?
- Well, it depends.
- I'm not so certain.
- Well, I don't know.
- Well, I'm not so sure about that.
- Hmm, I'm not sure you're right.
- I'm inclined to disagree with that.
- No, I don't think so.
